Consider these road safety tips prior to your next trip
Driving around and commuting is as much a part of our lives as anything else. It’s fairly obvious you will need a car when you want to go out and meet the grandparents with your kids or take a family road trip.
But no matter where you go, you will need to be safe and careful on the roads at all times. Road mishaps are fairly common and they are one of the biggest causes of death in the country every year.

Here are a few tips, suggested by our experts, that you should keep in mind the next time you take your car out for a spin.
- Even if you aren’t the sort of person who falls asleep at the wheel, take a few breaks every couple hours at least. It’s best that you drive around after having a cup of coffee or tea, since it tends to keep you wide awake and alert. Take a nap if you need to, somewhere along the way.
- Try, if you can, to share the responsibility of driving with someone else in the car. It’s always best to have at least one other designated driver in case you are unable to drive or are having trouble keeping your eyes open while on the road.
- This one is for before you get on the road – make sure you are well prepared and well rested. Check your Tire Pressure Monitoring System to see if the tires in your car have enough of pressure and won’t burst. Then you can carry a spare wheel and some tools if you feel confident you can repair the car yourself. Always eat well and get a good night’s sleep before you head out on the road.
- Always stay aware of the local laws in each state you visit. The laws may differ and with a little bit of googling you can find handy notes and charts that will help you understand the different regulations on using your phone or a hands free device. Keep a map of the route you are taking and figure out which jurisdiction you will be passing on your trip.
- Keep a look out for the way the skies are turning. If it gets too cloudy or the forecast on your smartphone app says it will rain, you may want to take some precautions.
- If you are going off on a long road trip, make sure you visit the local garage first. They can tune up your ride very quick and make sure it is in good condition to make the trip. Usually, the mechanics check to see if the tpms shows enough pressure in the tires, or the fluids are all in the proper levels. You can do this all yourself, but it’s best to go get help from an expert. We always recommend you trust them at the garage.
- Finally, the most obvious and well known trick of all, don’t drink and drive.
