Kathleen & Allan used a modern monogram throughout..on the cake, wall gobo, programs, invites and menus which really tied everything together. I have always been a fan of black and white weddings and absolutely love how chic and ‘black tie’ it looks!

Anyone planning a fall wedding? This colour palette would be perfect..loving the pairing of orange with blue. Reminds me of our local sports team, but it’s much more chic than that :)

Before I sign off for the next week to enjoy some much needed R&R over the Christmas holidays (don’t worry, we’ll share my top 5 week just before the New Year), I’m sharing a fitting photoshoot that celebrates all that’s pretty for the holidays. Meaghan of Weddings Tied With Lace: Planning and Design joins photographer Jesse James Photography and other talented vendors to create a tablescape that embodies the sparkle and glam of this festive season. We love the pairing of red with silver and the lovely hot chocolate bar filled with yummy fixings. Not to mention, the gorgeous bouquet and centerpieces, in addition to the ornaments that are placed at each napkin setting. I hope this inspires those who love the palette, are planning a holiday wedding for next year or just want to create a beautiful tablescape for your holiday dinner parties. Enjoy!

“With the holidays approaching we really wanted to tie in some traditional holiday decor aspects like using the colour red, and using lots of glitz to this theme, but we wanted to put a polished spin on it at the same time. While it is a holiday themed wedding, we didn’t want it to be “cookie cutter”. There is an almost sexy-dark-romantic spin to the decor and lighting that really pulls everything together. We went all out on the decor: hanging branches with candles, amazing textured linens and some of the most wonderful floral arrangements I have ever seen. The hot chocolate bar is the perfect winter pick-me-up for any wedding or party. It’s so much fun and is so reminiscent of cold days playing out in the snow. We had to add this as part of our theme. Candy by Katie did a great job turning a “cutesy” idea into an elegant table. The Inn on the Twenty was the perfect venue for this theme. The Vitner’s Cellar created the perfect atmosphere for us to really get the lighting and decor right.”

Hello again! This time I’ve decided to do things a little differently and rather than write about creations I have made, I am going to discuss colour trends for Spring 2012.

As every florist will tell you, the safest bet is to plan your flowers well enough in advance to ensure that you get what you want on your big day. This is why I’ve decided to discuss what’s hot for spring 2012. For those of you who have weddings in the Spring, I have created this post so you have a bit of time to plan out your flowers.

Those who don’t know, Pantone is “THE” experts in colour, and colour trends. In the last little while, Pantone released their 2012 Fashion Colour Palette for Spring. It is vibrant and full of rich, bright hues that are complimented by subtle earthy tones. Here it is:

You may be looking at this colour palate thinking, “There can’t be flowers for ALL of those colours”. Well, you are right; however, you will see some neat suggestions on how to get those ‘unnatural’ colours into your wedding flowers.

In order to give you a great array of flowers for each colour in the palette, I have listed many options for each tone.

As this is not a naturally occurring colour, I would suggest bringing this colour into your wedding flowers by creating a really neat fabric flowers (see photo) that add amazing texture and flair to your bouquet. The internet has a vast abundance of sources on how to make your own – and trust me, they are super easy to create. An alternate suggestion is to utilize ribbon in this colour as the wrap for your bouquets, etc. Finally, asking your florist to “spray” flowers this colour can get quite tricky. If it is not done correctly, it can look extremely overdone and unappealing!

As I have added only one photo for each colour, please feel free to visit my board on Pinterest where I have added several pictures of flowers and their names for each colour. This might turn out to be quite the useful tool for you when visiting your florist. Not only will you know which flowers and colours you like, but it knowing your flower choices will help cut down on your consultation time (which may in turn save you some $$$’s).

We all need some more pretty for the week right? Anna Jones Photography teamed up with Charmed Events and some additional amazing Ottawa vendors to create a soft, romantic wedding photoshoot with lots of lovely details. I adore the the ever gorgeous cake, beautiful florals and vintage-inspired stationery. Happy Thursday everyone.

From Anna of Anna Jones Photography: Inspired by the gorgeous golden hour lighting that takes place just before sunset, I set out with Anna, my gorgeous model and Amanda, Tiffany and Jen from Charmed Events to create a stylized summer wedding shoot with a soft, sun-kissed, romantic garden feel. The essence of this summer shoot was inspired by the blush of a bride, garden flowers and a relaxed vintage and feminine style. The soul of these photos show through the blush-toned wedding cake, with lace trim and beautiful handmade sugar roses, peonies, hydrangeas and ranunculus was brilliantly crafted by Christie’s Cakes – the most talented cake artist in Ottawa! Beautiful, soft and romantic – the bouquet, headpiece and floral arrangements by Sophie from Sage Designs feature garden flowers in hues of pink and creams with green accents. The bride’s lovely loose curls, styled by Melaina Landriault, were accessorized with a ethereal flower crown matching the bouquet and adding a touch of softness and whimsical romance to the shoot. Sophie is so incredibly talented and her floral arrangements were just breath-taking and an intricate part of this stylized session. Mandi Hutchinson drew inspiration from the pink and pastel hues in the bouquets for the bride’s make-up palette creating a soft, lovely glow suited to the golden hour garden party. Charmed Events did an amazing job in staging each vignette to bring a natural and vintage feel to every shot. They assembled a garden party backdrop noting the importance of each personalized element. The addition of natural touches such as pinecones and lemon slices were chosen to suit the outdoor setting – these talented ladies added an air of modern day nostalgia that followed the sun to sunset!

Remember the traditional Ukrainian wedding that we shared late last week? The bridesmaids wore navy blue dresses by BCBG, paired with small and short bouquets of deep red roses.

Over the weekend I had a peek at the latest J. Crew ad campaign and noticed the red & blue colour combination was ever so present. Here’s a look:

Love it? I think it’s such a pretty colour combination.

When I look back on it, I’ve only thought of baby’s breath as a filler for bouquets. On Valentines, the red roses would be surrounded in it and I have to be honest, it wasn’t at the top of my floral list. But who knew how beautiful it would look if paired with something like green trick or just on its own? And it can be unbelievably modern if done right. Here are some examples of how you can incoporate baby’s breath into your wedding.
