Vineyard Wedding
Oh-boy-oh-boy do I love this wedding!! Nestled in the hills of Virginia, Jessica and Fady were married at Bluemont Vineyard with breathtaking views of the Virginia countryside. This affair is full of DIY details and I am ooo-ing and ahh-ing over each one!!
The bride and groom designed their own DIY wedding invitations – a caricature of them drawn by the groom, printed at home, complete with handmade lace bands with a button secure. They included hand-stamped monograms with their initials and a fern leaf, a theme carried throughout the wedding.
Upon arrival, each guest received a hand-sewn wedding program that the bride made using fabric scraps and elements from the wedding invitations. Then, the beautiful reception was held steps away in the stable, an old horse barn with a wrap around porch, paper lanterns and white lights.
Jessica tells us more about her day…
I carried a vintage locket of my grandparents with a pair of my grandmother’s blue clip-on earrings on my bouquet with me. I wore a handmade silk flower in my hair, vintage rhinestone earrings and bracelet, with a diamond necklace from Lebanon given to me by my mother-in-law. My bridesmaids wore matching handmade flowers in their hair and I gifted each girl with their own unique vintage 1920s rhinestone bracelet.
Music was a very important element of our wedding for us – my step-sister sang “Dream a Little Dream” by the Mamas and Papas for our wedding party processional, accompanied by our guitarist. Fady and I walked to “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles as our recessional song. During our reception, our DJ played a mix of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Van Morrison and other classic rock classics. We were sure to mix in a few Lebanese hits later in the night to highlight Fady’s Lebanese heritage!
My mother-in-law returned from a trip to Lebanon with suitcases filled with Lebanese treats and sweets just weeks before the wedding. We gave each guest a small box filled with Lebanese candy adorned with lace and ribbon, and a small tag stamped with a custom stamp designed by my father-in-law with Shukran, the Arabic word for thank you.
Our dessert table was a spread of homemade apple pies and cupcakes made by my mom and aunts, and delicious treats from Lebanon. My mother-in-law also provided Lebanese appetizers for the cocktail hour that was held on the stable’s wraparound porch.
For our farm table reception setting, I scoured local thrift stores for 100s of vintage brass knick-knacks and glass vases – each piece was spread down the middle of the tables and topped with ferns, mums and eggplant colored ranunculas. Each handmade table number was made up of framed brass vintage number pieces – girl scout patch, clock face, vintage playing card, vintage game pieces. I purchased burlap table runners from Etsy store, LaruesLine . As guests entered the reception, they were asked to sign tags for our wish tree made of branches from my dad’s backyard. They could find their seats on tags secured to old weathered windowpanes from my grandparent’s farm in upstate NY.
Later in the night, guests had fun in our photo booth filled with props and balloon animals from my aunt, a professional clown!
