Shigmotsav is the Holi time festival of Goa. This video was shot in 2014 at Panjim. Shigmo is a parade on the streets of the towns and villages where people sing and dance. There is a kind of fancy dress with children dressed as  characters. The chants of Har Har Mahadev resonate in the air. The colors have to be seen to be believed.

Shigmotsav is another brilliant example of India’s diversity. There are drums, there are women’s dances, there are war time dances on make believe horses and there are children jumping around. Some call it the Hindu version of Goa Carnival, but this is the aboriginal festival of Goa. In the villages of Goa it is celebrated in even more traditional ways with children performing and asking for gifts in lieu of the performance.
