Sweet Yellow Wedding at Hotel Mac
I’ve got an unbelievably sweet wedding that will surely brighten up your Tuesday morning. Tom & Christa’s early fall wedding was simple, yet elegant just as they wanted with the classic combination of black and white. And to add a bit of fun to the mix, they incorporated pops of yellow which was reflected throughout the decor. Photography is by Kelsy Nielson .
Tom and I started dating back in May of 2006. He had just moved back from Vancouver and started coming to the same church I was going to. Ironically, he first tried setting me up with one of his best friends before realizing he liked me himself! After we started dating, we also found out that our parents were friends when they first came to Canada 30 years ago. It was a surprise for the both of us and it’s been great seeing our parents reconnect after drifting apart.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
My most vivid memory of our wedding day was the walk down the aisle. Judging from the wedding rehearsal the day before, I had expected to be the one shedding the tears, not Tom. So it really surprised me when the doors opened and I saw Tom tearing up as my father and I walked down the aisle. Just the memory of it makes me smile, though, if you ask Tom, he wasn’t crying ;)
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
Tom and I have always loved the combination of black and white so when it came to choosing our wedding colours, it was a no brainer. Black and white has that timeless and classic quality to it, which was the overall feel we wanted for our wedding; we added in yellow because it’s bright and fun. Our centrepieces were inspired by our colours. The yellow of the lemons were the exact shade we were looking for and the ivory topiary balls complimented them perfectly. My husband Tom loves golf which is why we chose to give golf balls, monogramed with the same birds that were on our invitations, paired with tees as our favours. We tried to keep the decor simple but elegant, using votives and flower petals to dress up the cake and guest book table as well as the candy buffet and floral centerpieces for the head table.
Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
My advice for the brides-to-be out there would be to let things go. On the big day, all of the small details that seem monumental at the time of choosing doesn’t matter anymore. There isn’t much you can to do control any mistakes or mishaps that may or may not happen on your wedding. Just take it all in and remember to smile cause it’s gonna go by in a whirlwind!
