Unexpected Decor: Aquarium Inspired

Sometimes I turn to party events when I’m looking to get some inspiration. Often at times you can pull decor and colour ideas from these events and tweak them in a way so that they’re wedding ready. Case in point..the recent Sea Jelly Soiree / Shedd Aquarium Gala. The centerpieces are full of colour and are arranged in a way that is entirely unique and modern. And while you might think that a jelly fish themed wedding is a little “out there”, there’s so many great details that you can consider for your own wedding, even if it’s scaled back a notch or two. Read on for my tips on how you can get this look for your own wedding!

Just how awesome is this centerpiece? Achieve a similar look by using clear square or rectangular vases filled with aqua blue water beads and submerged LEDs that are water-safe. Add a flower of your choice – a green succulent (my favorite!), spider mum or a bright thistle would be absolutely perfect. Looking for a DIY project? I love how you can create your own mirror cubed vases using five square mirrors which you can purchase at the dollar store. Check out wedding bee for the tutorial. In this case, the vase won’t likely be water-tight, so you can swap the water beads for clear glass rock shards. I love the irregularity of their shapes. For an added look to your table, consider adding 4 cube vases side by side (2×2) for a round table arrangement, or lined next to each other in a row for longer rectangular tables.

It’s all about the lighting! You can create a similar look by asking your florist to create a ball-shaped arrangement of red roses/carnations and add a punch of colour with a simple yellow mum or thistle attached to its side. The flowers can be suspended on tall clear vases filled with clear water beads. To make the table pop, add a aqua or teal coloured table linen and pair it will a crisp white napkin. And of course, who can ignore the chairs. I am a BIG fan of lucite. I think I might just pick up a ghost chair for my home because I love them too much.
