Personal Update: The Cupcakes!!
I guess it’s time to share the details of my recent wedding, as I’ve been pressured to hurry up! My amazing friend Wilmer Bong arrived at the venue before the guests and got some stunning shots of the tables, cupcakes, and sign in table. The images from my photographer Jessica Fern Facette will be coming soon, I promise (8 weeks to be exact!). But rather than wait, I just had to post wilmer’s amazing photos to show you some of the details. My vision for the wedding was modern, chic and full of squares (yes..squares!). Colors of course were black, white, green and slate grey. I focused on making sure the little details were there, to personalize the wedding.
These delicious sweet cupcakes were courtesy Cake Couture in Edmonton. Jason and I tried two other cupcakes in the city and while they were all great, we couldn’t get ourselves to book them. Then Jason insisted we check out a relatively new cake shoppe in Edmonton and boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Annie was like my long-lost sister who was on the same wavelength as us. While we knew what style of cupcake design we wanted, she suggested that they match the grey/green squares on my invitations (see below). Grey? I’m a sucker for non-traditional elements, so we were both thrilled at the idea. The cupakes were marble to satisfy my love of chocolate and jason’s love of vanilla. The icing was a light vanilla and what I love most about Annie’s cupcakes is the extra dose of filling in the center of the cupcake. They’re light and fluffy and not overly sweet.
The top square cake was covered in little grey and green squares similar to my wedding invitations. It’s now sitting in jason’s parents freezer. I’ve never been one to save the cake for the wedding anniversary, but I felt it was a waste since it was so pretty and barely touched!
If you’re looking for an alternative to a wedding cake and are considering cupcakes, keep in mind that you can do just about anything. Don’t hold back and personalize it. All it takes is finding a vendor who understands what you want or at least thinks the same way you do. If you’re an Edmonton bride, be sure to drop by Cake Couture . My guests are still raving about the cupcakes and they’re aching to order batches for themselves. Make sure you call to order in advance though, because cupcakes aren’t pre-made and ready to purchase because of the busy wedding season.
And if you’re interested in contacting wilmer (who takes fab detail shots), contact me and I’ll connect you with him! Thanks wilmer!
