How To Stay Connected While Traveling
By Peter Moore of Yabb Messenger
Being able to travel the world and experience everything it has to offer is a true blessing; however, it also creates a big challenge: staying connected with the people whom on any given day might be on the other side of the world.
When I decide where to travel, one of the major things I look for is how different the environment is. Many times I end up picking my next destination specifically because I believe it will take me somewhere foreign, introduce me to something new, and give me the chance to disconnect from my comfort zone – social media included.
So how can you embrace the locality of a unique place and keep in touch with your friends, without blowing up your phone with Messenger and Snapchat notifications?
There’s one simple solution. Instead of juggling around multiple services, which can eat up valuable data and distract you from your travel-zen time , condense all your social interaction into one simple app that you can turn on and off at will. This way, you can still experience the solitude and beauty of discovery that comes with solo travel , without cutting off everyone from your home life.
Phone Meets Social
The app I use for my travel communications is called Yabb Messenger . It combines features like texting and calling with more social media-style photo sharing and chat. You can import all your contacts from both your phone’s directory and your Facebook account — which is another great thing, as it seems the one worldwide constant is Facebook — and store them all in one place for quick access.
Another great thing about Yabb is that you’ll actually be able to cut off the phone companies and do all your communication over Wi-Fi if you want to save some money . It can be hard to truly escape Wi-Fi, even in remote parts of the world, and while that means it can be harder to disconnect sometimes it also means you’ll have plenty of chances to enjoy free messaging and calling from anywhere in the world. You can even capture your location on a GPS map and send it through a text, showing your friends and family where you’ve ended up this time.
Cultural Immersion
Yabb also makes immersing yourself in the local culture easier. A lot of apps tend to pull you out of the world around you and demand you spend your time staring at your phone; however, Yabb lets you search the area around you to meet new people, which really supports discovering new sides of the world. Of course, the people you find depends on where you are. You might not find tons of people in Bhutan, but in bigger cities there are more chances to meet up.
The most important thing to remember when traveling is to balance your time between friends back home, and new experiences in the here and now. Yabb Messenger can help you do just that.
