Celebrating Office Dogs – Part 2: Horny Toad Clothing
Celebrating Office Dogs is a blog series where we pay tribute to the companies that embrace the canine culture and allow their employees to bring their dogs to work.
At Ruffwear, we know there are many benefits to having our canine sidekicks by our side but we wanted to explore the benefits that other companies see in opening their offices to dogs, what special accommodations (if any) they put in place to make the office dog-friendly, and hear their inspiring and, at times hilarious, office dog stories.
For this second installment, we are highlighting Horny Toad clothing in Santa Barbabra, California. Horny Toad believes in living “toadally” – They “make clothes, but it’s about more than that. It’s about fueling the fire, making every day an adventure and a chance to wake up on the right side of the bed.”
They also happen to be a dog-friendly office and friends of Ruffwear so we were excited when we got the chance to ask Marketing Manager, Steve McCann, some questions about the dog culture at Horny Toad.

How many employees are at Horny Toad?
Thirty people in the office.
How many dogs do you see in the office on an average day?
Five: Norm, Lucy, Monte, Leo and Jade. This isn’t counting guest appearances by some of the office puppies who are still a bit too energetic to be here all day long.
What are the benefits of having dogs in the office?
Our dogs are just like the rest of the Horny Toad employees – only their job is to remind us to laugh, to not worry about the small stuff and to get outside a couple of times a day — which they’re great at. So apart from keeping a steady flow of treats going, their presence is pretty much a natural extension of our office culture.
Can you share with us the funniest or favorite office dog moment at Horny Toad?
When they race around the office together as a pack. All but one of them is a small dog, so it’s pretty hilarious.
Leashed in the office or free range?
Free range. We’re lucky that all our delivery people carry dog treats in their pockets.
Any additional comments of how dogs add to your office culture?
Honestly, it would be hard to imagine Horny Toad headquarters without dogs. They might have four legs, but they’re the best teachers of how to be truly human: love unconditionally; be a loyal friend; eat good food whenever you can; nap when you must; play every day.
