This time, the question is about what to expect from your vendors which is SO important, especially when you’re planning your own wedding.

Rebecca asked:

About three weeks ago I met with a potential vendor for my wedding decor. We talked about what kind of items we wanted to rent from them, and they said they would get back to me with a quote within a couple days. It’s been three weeks, and I have e-mailed and phoned them with no response back. I would normally go to another vendor but they are one of two vendors I know of that carry these centerpieces that I want. What is a normal wait time to get an estimate back?

Hi Rebecca, many brides struggle with trying to make sense of what is reasonable or not when working with a variety of wedding vendors…and although there is no stead-fast rules, I’ll try to give you a sense of what is most often reasonable.

When working with my Nuance Occasions couples, when we meet with a vendor, I always clarify with that vendor when to expect their quote or their answers…just as you did.

When I don’t receive a response, I wait one or two days past the deadline, and try to contact them by phone or email – again, you’ve done everything right! However, if two business days go by without a response, I will do one more phone call, explaining that I will be moving along to another vendor if I don’t get a response.

I can be quite reasonable, if a vendor tells me they need an extra week or two because of their schedule, and if we have the time to wait…I don’t mind waiting…I know exactly how crazy busy the wedding industry is. But I’m happiest if a vendor can be honest and explain that more time is needed, then I can respect that.

Q/A: Vendor Expectations

In your case, if your decor company is an open business that you can drop by at, I’d recommend you visit the business and wait for them to draw up your quote.

If a vendor isn’t returning calls and emails, after 3 weeks, it’s a bit of a red flag for me…do you really want to work with a vendor that is going to be difficult to get a hold of? Especially as you get closer to your wedding date? Have you gotten references from other couples about this particular decor company to know they are a reputable business?

See if you can drop by your decor company one last time, and if not successful, move along to the other decor company! I hope your decor company steps up to the plate and gets your quote to you! Best wishes!
