Fly Tying during the Winter Freeze

Many of the NWPA’s flowing waters become locked with ice during the winter months. I might take a trip to dam outflows and tailwaters that remain open or even do some ice fishing at this time. I also like to take a breath and organize my gear. One activity of interest during the colder months in NWPA is fly tying. Many local fly shops, clubs, and even stores that sell fly fishing equipment offer fly tying classes during the winter months. Many of these classes and demonstrations are instructed by experienced fly anglers who know what works. It’s a good idea to listen to their tips and experiences they’ve had while fishing area waters. Terminology of gear, methods, and aquatic insect identification are all subjects that an effective fly angler must know.
