Spreading Ruffwear “Trail Magic” at the A-T Trail Days

This note just came in from Ruffwear’s east coast rep, Thomas Horsch. Thanks Thomas for sharing and for spreading a little “trail magic”!

Today as I was going through my town of Damascus, VA, I came across Radda and Ellie May. They are 2013 Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers who were in town for Trail Days this past weekend and are headed out northbound again today.

As I was coming back through town I realized there was an opportunity here to create a little trail magic. I went in to our local outfitter, Mt. Rogers Outfitters and grabbed an orange extra small Approach Pack off the rack, filled it with some Zuke’s dog treats and drove up and found Radda and Ellie May heading for the trail. I told Radda that if this pack fits Ellie May, it’s hers. Needless to say, it fit like Cinderella’s slipper! Radda was incredibly grateful and said that this was the best thing to happen to her all weekend. I gently inquired about whether she was near the incident where the elderly man drove through the crowd of thru-hikers in the Trail Days Parade on Saturday, injuring several. She was indeed and was actually grabbed by a “local kid” who pulled her out of the way at the last second as the car grazed her and drove by. She said she had never experienced something so incredibly freighting as all the chaos that ensued. She was thankful that luckily she was holding Ellie May when the incident took place or otherwise the little dog could have been run over.

So here’s a picture of Radda and Ellie May with Ellie May proudly wearing her new trail magic Ruffwear Approach Pack. Radda says he plans to summit Mt Katahdin with Ellie May and her new Ruffwear Approach Pack. Onward to Maine!
