A Qantas pilot was removed from her control duty of a passenger jet just before take-off at Sydney Airport on Monday. The Boeing 767-300 jet was supposed to leave for Brisbane from Sydney, when the cabin crew reported to the flight operations manager that the senior pilot was under the influence of alcohol.

The jet was brought back to the domestic terminal where a replacement pilot took charge of the Boeing. After testing positive for alcohol consumption, the female captain was suspended from all her duties with full pay.

The Qantas administration could not comment on the pilot’s identity or alcohol consumption, but a spokesman confirmed “A Qantas captain was withheld from service this week for administrative reasons. The matter is being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

At this time, the matter has been informed to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, though the investigation may take up to a month.
