Dedication leads to angling success

In the Spring, it can be difficult fishing at times, but anglers who venture further from access area parking lots can find success. Robert Pfister, of Erie, is willing to go the extra mile to find the fish. Pfister will walk eight miles or more to catch steelhead. It also helps when you’ve been fishing the Erie area tributaries for over twenty years.

The 28 inch steelhead in the featured photo was caught, April 2, in NWPA. The hefty fish was one of several others Robert caught on the trip. He lost an even larger fish earlier that day. “That behemoth hen was fresh and had to be nearly 15 pounds”, said Pfister. Egg imitations and streamers were producing consistent strikes from hungry fish.

Robert enjoys other fishing oppurtunities in NWPA as well. Here is one of several brown trout he caught from Presque Isle Bay in late March. He caught several fish in the 18-20 inch range, while fishing from a kayak. It isn’t always about pounding the ground for fish. “Sometimes all you need is the perfect drift or a little luck” adds Pfister.
