The newest episode of Yosemite Nature Notes was posted this week – this time focusing on so-called “Sky Islands,” high-elevation plateaus that are isolated from the rest of their environment by peaks and valleys. These areas look barren from a distance, but usually host a wide range of plant and animal life, sometimes with species unique to individual peaks.

As usual, Steven Bumgardner and crew do a fantastic job of highlighting the hidden beauty in Yosemite. If you haven’t been watching, there’s a lot of great natureporn on their YouTube channel – some of the world’s most gorgeous scenery in wonderful web-HD.
