Ice fishing update Dec. 27

Fewer than a dozen huts dotted the northern side of Presque Isle Bay and Misery Bay Sunday afternoon. A few more were visible along the city side of the bay.

Open water was evident along Presque Isle State Park’s southern shore, especially at Swan Cove, Perry Momument and from the channel stretching west into the bay. Flocks of gulls in and above the water and perching on the ice shelf make the open areas obvious.

Shoreline ice looked perilous on the southern shore heading east through the park. Slush bobbed through the channel along the South Pier wall.

Be exceptionally careful if you plan to go on the ice.
