Bride Blogger Update: Music
Today, our newest bride blogger is back to share her totally awesome music ideas – In the words of Rachel Zoe, “I die.”

In my first post, you heard me mention music a couple of times; indeed, I knew my venue was “The One” when I saw its many spaces that are perfect for musical entertainment. As you plan your celebration, be particularly mindful of the elements that are truly special to you as a couple. You will be amazed at how your commitment will pay off, as those elements will help to make the wedding unmistakably yours.
One of the first facts I learned about Chris was that his favorite song is Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. He soon came to learn that I adore music as well, and have pursued my passion for dance since I was very young. We decided early on that our wedding would reflect our love for many genres of music.
Our ceremony, of course, will feature the Cathedral of St. Matthew’s stunning organ, vocalists, trumpets, and — I’m hoping — bagpipes to honor our shared Irish heritage. As guests arrive at the reception, the sound of a string quartet’s classical selections will greet them from the unique balcony space that is just perfect for an ensemble. A pianist will play during dinner, beginning with Gershwin and carrying us forward in time to hear our favorite jazz standards and some Rat Pack! To take full advantage of the original sounds of our favorite modern artists, we selected Chris Laich DJ, who will be sure to get our guests on the dance floor.
We couldn’t be more pleased with the music — and musicians — we’ve chosen, yet I felt as though something was missing. After all, it’s my best friend from college, not Big & Rich, who sings my favorite rendition of “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy!” I realized that an idea I had (and subsequently abandoned) early in my planning process was actually the perfect way to round out the evening. That’s right: I’m taking the plunge and making karaoke available!
Now, I’m not envisioning hours of embarrassment and thick binders filled with endless laminated pages of one-hit-wonders. By contrast, I’m thrilled to be able to offer our guests the opportunity to add their own unique musical touches to the evening (one of our friends said he intends to “Bollywoodify” our wedding — I can’t wait!). I’ve taken several of my dearest friends at their word that a few serenades will be fun for everyone, and above all, I know that laughter is some of the world’s best music.
