I need to rant…
…because I have decided that one of the worst things about travelling is laundry. Yes, laundry. Now, I know this may sound petty, but I have a point here. All the countries down here have lavanderias on every corner so everyone takes their laundry there, and usually gets it back, washed, dried, and folded the next day. Sounds nice because you don´t have to do it yourself, right…WRONG! These laundry places are the biggest thieves and scammers that I have found in S.A.! I think I already shared the Mendoza story with everyone, but in case, I will describe again to prove a point. Chelsea, a friend we were with, took her clothes to one twice, and both times, she got a few things ripped off, which definitely ends up adding up. When we went back to complain, we were behind another couple who had clothes missing as well. And today, Steve and I were both so excited to finally get laundry done since we haven´t done it forever, so we sent it out with a company via our hostel this morning, and it just got back now……of course, Steve is missing a pair of his running shorts, and my white hoodie–which is like my staple shirt down here–has greyish black stains all over it now, rendering it unwearable. Not cool. Granted, Steve`s shorts may show up, and this may be for nothing, but it is definitely annoying. You pack certain things for a trip, and they get worn and ruined as it is, but to lose item after item to the laundry people is a little ridiculous. Besides, for people like me, it is a pretty sneaky scam…..say you take one thing out of my laundry every time I drop it off. Now, I am a little bit scattered, so I am probably not going to notice one tank top missing out of the entire pile until a day or a week or a month later when I want to wear it and realize it is gone….grrr
Now, for a way to solve this problem. Although we haven´t really enacted this plan as of yet, it really helps to make a list of what you are dropping off while you are at the laundry place….if they see you making the list there, they cannot deny that you actually dropped the item off (when I was with Chelsea, they told her that she was just wrong–kinda insinuating lying–and that she hadn´t dropped the missing clothes off) Of course, if you do make this list in front of them, you are gonna have to deal with the sighing and the eye rolling that is inevitable, because, of course, they would never take anything…..but take it from me, and DEFINITELY make the list!!!!!!!
