Modern Junkyard Inspiration Shoot

Happy Friday! Not only am I happy that it’s the start of the weekend, but I’ve been aching to share this modern bridal shoot for a while now. Kristina McAnally with the Event Planning Headquarters came up with the concept of a beautiful bridal shoot placed in a junkyard which made for some spectacular photos from Shandro Photo . Be sure to check out each and every vendor that was part of this inspiration shoot! It’s a stunner.

For quite some time I have wanted to do a bridal shoot that was designed purely around juxtaposition. Most people would never dare put a bride in a couture gown in a junkyard full of dishevelled metal but that’s exactly what I wanted! The opportunity finally presented itself and I assemble a team of the wedding industry’s finest to help me complete the vision.

Kristina:
Photographer Haley Shandro of Shandro photo and I set out in search of the perfect location for the shoot. We went to more junkyards than I can count and finally decided on what is essentially a car graveyard as opposed to those with just piles of scrap metal. I love how willing Haley and Michael Shandro are when it comes to exploring new places and doing unconventional things.

Once the location was settled on and our model was chosen I was aching to contact Lani van Rooyen of ROOY Couture to see if she would be involved in the shoot and make us a one of a kind creation. To my utmost delight she agreed! Lani was so accommodating. Despite the fact that she had to work with a model who lived 6 hours away and wouldn’t be able to come for a fitting until the day prior to the shoot she didn’t even hesitate for a moment. I described to her the concept and then she took creative control and really wowed me with the end product! Her talent is incredible! Our model was styled to perfection by Make Up Artist Kaitie Durbeniuk and Hair Stylist Sunita Sumaru. I love the dramatic make up and the big fishtail braid.

For the tablescape I wanted to keep it fairly simple. Elements like the crystal clear chairs, diamond napkin rings and oversized diamond table number holder, provided by Special Event Rentals, brought a simple elegance that was needed to contrast with the junkyard backdrop. The centerpiece was a combination of twisted metal, beautiful fresh flowers and hanging glass balls. Floral Designer, Janine Sebastian, from La Piazza Dasee also crafted a gorgeous bouquet full of purple and fuschia flowers and of course my favourite element…bling! Some of the flower petals had crystals meticulously applied by hand so that they would shimmer in the sunlight. So gorgeous!

The final element that brought the wow factor to the shoot was the cake. Cake Couture Owner, Annie Dam, came up with a design that mixed square and round tiers. The white fondant base was all hand “etched” and colourful floral details stretched from top to bottom of the 6 tier masterpiece. I loved the cake sitting against the rusty old oil tank.

I hope you’ll be inspired by this shoot! Enjoy!
