Today we’ve got a modern, contemporary wedding held in beautiful Montreal. If you don’t know by now, I love weddings held at unique wedding venues, so I love the fact that today’s feature is held at the Montreal Science Center. Photos are all by PhotoTerra Studio . Enjoy.

How did you two meet?

I was living in Toronto and my husband was living in New York. I went to New York on a girls holiday over the Halloween weekend and we were at the same house party. He was dressed as a 70’s John McEnroe in short shorts, headband and knee socks. I don’t know if it was love at first sight but I knew I had to get to know him. We kept in touch and went on our first date 6 months after that in Montreal (the city we got married in)

What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?

For me that question is difficult because there is very little that I didn’t love. Key moments were our vows to each other (Daniel made me cry in a good way), my cousin performing a song with the band for us, dancing with my daughter, and the three of us sharing Saint Hubert Chicken in our hotel room after the festivities at 4am. (btw my daughter wasn’t yet 5 years old!)

What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?

The idea was to be modern and simple but to also give a nod to the city where we were married (see charcuterie style menu boards). White flowers for a wedding was great but it was also important for me that the bridesmaids be in a position to re-wear their dresses so their wearing grey was a perfect colour. Also- if you allow the girls to pick whatever dress they want, the different greys could look great together whereas other colours wouldn’t be so easy to match and they would be forced to pick from the same designer.

Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?

This was my second wedding and I had learned a lot from the first. I think the number one thing is to be on the same page with your fiancé. If you alienate each other, it’s not worth it. And second, get the best band in the world, which is what we did. Your band, photographer, bartender and caterer are key. Look at how amazing our photographs turned out- Stick with the professionals and if it means cutting down on other things, it’s worth it. Oh, and have fun. I made sure I did that!

From Phototerra: We all know there is no other city like Montreal, its French and English past adds to its Quebec charm. And as most Canadians who pass through realize–Montreal is the true essence of what Canada envisioned itself to be. And it’s no surprise that three years ago, Montreal was the city that welcomed a prairie girl from Winnipeg and a hockey obsessed kid from Ottawa–embracing them as they walked the streets of Old Montreal. Fast forward to 2012 and Montreal played its role again for Marlo and Daniel. It was the right place to welcome loved ones and the perfect backdrop to kick start Marlo and Daniel’s life together. Here is Marlo and Daniel’s story: From a first date spent strolling the cobblestone streets of Old Montreal, love bloomed between Marlo, a Prairie girl living in Toronto, and Daniel, an Ottawa boy then living in New York City. At first they dated long distance, and then called Toronto their home with Marlo’s precious young daughter Hayden. But the romantic draw of those same cobblestone streets held strong when it came time to gather family and friends to celebrate Marlo and Daniel’s marriage for a destination wedding in Old Montreal. Almost 200 gathered at the stunning Science Centre, overlooking the majestic views and rocking out on the dance floor until well past the 3:00 am closing time.
