It’s that time of year when the new year is approaching. Before my year-end wrap of my favourite posts, I’m finishing off 2013 with a real wedding, one that’s far from traditional, just as the couple wanted. Planned by Evelyn of Evelyn Clark Weddings , this contemporary wedding was held at the Glencoe Golf & Country Club in Calgary in a lovely palette of purple, pink & silver. Photography is by DeVuono Photography . Enjoy!

Says Evelyn: Jackie and Chris are a really fun couple who didn’t want anything too “wedding” or traditional. Our challenge was to blend their different style preferences: rustic charm and modern trendy with an overall clean aesthetic, which happened to reflect their roots and lifestyles (Jackie is from a small town and Chris hails from the Greater Toronto Area, and they live in downtown Calgary).

Using a bold palette, we designed their wedding with an overall elegance, adding hints of rustic elements like earthy James Storey orchids and homemade Saskatoon jam favours (which the bride made from scratch!). Silver and grey acted as our neutrals, and flashes of mirrored surfaces and purple mood lighting were nods to the trendy, “club-like” touches the groom desired.

Keeping with the non-traditional theme, we skipped the big wedding cake and had a colourful sweet table instead. This worked wonderfully to allow the many gluten-intolerant guests to partake in dessert.

It should be noted that this wedding was planned in less than 6 months. While many people see this as a difficulty, we see this short planning period as liberating. Sure, a short timeline can bring issues with vendor availability, but it can also speed up your decision making because you don’t over-think things. We were able to nail down Jackie and Chris’ vision, and it was our team’s pleasure to bring everything together for them.
