Sweet Engagement by Mark Wikkerink Cinema | Stills
Today’s engagement session by Mark Wikkerink Cinema | Stills is absolutely pretty. The couple, the photos and the beautiful open field where the photoshoot took place. Derek & Sanchia met through mutual friends at Julyfest in Kimberley, BC and their engagement story is nothing short of a love story. Read on!
Says Mark:
I have to say that this shoot was somewhat special for me – Sanchia was one of the first friends I made when I moved to Calgary. So naturally I was thrilled when I received a Facebook message asking about my photography, and it was great to be able to meet Derek. Sanchia’s family thought it would be a great idea to have me over for dinner one night so I could get to know them a little better (which I whole heartedly agreed to!) and we had a fun evening filled with good food, wine, laughter, and great conversations.
The engagement story: On Sunday July 18th, 2010 Derek Rauch and Sanchia Kamps went on a hike up a small mountain in Wasa Lake, British Columbia. The weather was perfect, the sky was beautiful, and the company was exceptional. On the top of the mountain, Derek picked Sanchia a small bouquet of wildflowers and wrapped them in a bow with a long blade of grass. She blushed and sqeezed his hand gently. Derek guided her over to a little bench overlooking the glassy cool lake. A big storm was coming in from the west; the sky was dark and ominous on one side but bright and glorious on the other. It was here that Derek asked Sanchia to marry him and instantly Sanchia embraced him with a squeal and a kiss and cried, “Yes!” How they met: Through mutual friends at Julyfest in Kimberley, BC – It’s like a stampede but without anything ‘western’. There’s a bocce ball tournament and grass volleyball as well. My cousin also coached Derek in volleyball at College of the Rockies years before I ever knew who he was!
