Nob Hill Inspired Affair in Toronto

Having just visited San Francisco last year, I can’t help but love today’s featured photoshoot which was inspired by the charming and beautiful neighbourhood of Nob Hill. Kate MacKenzie Weddings along with a dream team of Toronto vendors created an elegant tablescape in soft teal and burnt orange, an unexpected yet beautiful fall palette. There are many details throughout that are specific to San Francisco and the bride was outfitted in a gorgeous dress and carried a vibrant bouquet that is just utterly chic. Photography is by The Love Studio .

Says Kate: “Inspired by the charm of San Francisco’s Nob Hill neighbourhood, we chose to build the concept (style, colours, details) as a real bride of today’s era would – with reverence to her roots and her family’s decades-old influence. The Nob Hill community at the turn of the century was home to the city’s (and the country’s) wealthiest, most influential members of society: the mere altitude of the neighbourhood made it highly desirable and hardly affordable – the streets and homes were protected from flooding and storm surges.

The venue and the bride’s elegant poise, gown, and accessories pay homage to her family’s influence, but we incorporated an edgy autumn colour combination and interesting, out-of-the-box details. The style and details were influenced by the characters we sought to represent – the real people who are today’s real brides and grooms : who come from mixed backgrounds and cultures with unique tastes and quirks. We also painted the scene with decidedly “San Franciscan” details: pink popcorn, fortune cookies (cleverly crafted of fondant – Wedding Cake Shoppe), cake ball “pearls” resting in the oyster shells in the tin tub, as well as Milanese bitter Fernet Branca – 70% of all the stateside fernet is consumed in SF.

The backstory is important context to the shoot, but we hope that when brides to be see this spread they are inspired to dream up a day that wholly represents who they are (individually and as a couple), where they’re from, and what they love – with all expectations of what’s been done before, cast aside.

A note about the favours: I supplied The Spice Trader the ‘names’ and cultural background of the bride and groom – and the favour is a special ‘spice mix’ of the 2 cultures – with a tested and approved recipe inserted for guests to take home and try out on their own. Each favour would retail for $5CAD. This is currently a service they are hoping to offer for their 2015 brides.
