Modern Vintage Love from Sharon Litchfield
I get so unbelievably excited when I get hold of a wedding that combines a collection of different styles. This particular wedding is modern, urban and vintage at the same time. The amazing talent that is Sharon Litchfield captured some stunning images from Michelle & Alan’s special day and I’m so thrilled to share it with you. I see a lot of weddings everyday and it’s not often that I write back to a photographer stating “this is my kind of bride!” Michelle appreciates photography and put a lot of creativity towards her wedding, as you’ll see soon!
I asked Michelle to share a little bit about her wedding planning process and overall inspiration…
To start off, Alan and I got married in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico – a beautiful destination wedding with our closest family and friends. However, we knew we had to celebrate again with the rest of our family/friends back home so it wasn’t even a question to have a big reception when we got back. Since I was basically planning two weddings, we were working on a very tight budget – but I didn’t feel like I had to sacrifice the details, the vision that I had for our special day. I knew I had to get creative, do a LOT of research and pull in extra help from family/friends. I created my save-the-dates and invitations myself (with help of course!) which was very time consuming but definitely worth the effort and money we saved.
The jewellery from The White Aisle added a nice vintage touch to Michelle’s bridal outfit.
The adjectives that came to mind when asked what type of wedding photos I wanted were: classic and elegant, edgy and contemporary, as well as vintage and old-fashion. It was obvious that I wanted a bit of everything! I did not want to settle for boring and dull – these are our wedding photos that we will keep for the rest of our lives after all :] Therefore I wanted to take pictures at different locations throughout the city. Sharon initially asked me for some ideas of where I wanted to shoot and she immediately came up with the perfect locations – it was great to work with someone that “gets” you the first time and from the beginning we were able to connect at the same level.
The overall inspiration for my wedding was an asian-fusion theme with very simple, elegant and romantic details. Alan and I quickly agreed on our wedding colors – turqoise blue and chocolate brown. We both loved this combination and we knew we wanted to incorporate these colors into our wedding. As well, I wanted white and gold as my accent colors. To add to the asian-fusion theme, we purchased black & white shoji folding screens to go behind our head table and cherry blossoms for our centerpieces.
Gorgeous. Check out Sharon’s site for more wedding inspiration in Edmonton & area.
