Lovely Vintage Inspired DIY Wedding at Hauser Hall
This morning we have Brianna and Mat’s pretty vintage-inspired wedding captured by Arts & Craft Photography and I can’t be more thrilled to share it. It is filled with endless DIY details that you will absolutely fall in love with. Among other things, I am particularly smitten with the chalkboard ceremony backdrop. Despite the existing colours of the venue, the couple was able to carry through a soft spring palette by paying attention to the littlest of details in their reception.
I actually never had a big picture, I was more focused on all the little details. I started out small and tried to tie it all together. The hall had a both vintage and rustic feel with the lovely rod iron chandeliers, cobblestone floor and gorgeous old wooden tables. I didn’t want to work against any of it’s charm. Rather than using any drapery we decided to use flowers and candles as our decorations and adding our own little DIY touches . Despite it being fall and the hall having deep terracotta paint in the reception area I was determined to stick with my favourite spring colours, soft and slightly muted pinks, purples, blues and greens. I incorporated these colours into the centerpieces, the seating chart, programs and even the macarons. In the end we had a spring colour palette mid fall, and I loved it!
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
My favourite moment was sitting at the reception mid dinner, that’s when it really sunk in. All the pictures had been taken, the ceremony was done, dinner was served and we were married! I just remember looking around the room and taking in all of our friends and family in the same space, talking, laughing and enjoying themselves and thinking how lucky we were. I remember being relieved that nothing had gone wrong and all our DIY decore looked just as I had hoped. Then, I remember turning to Mat and us sharing a smile, a mutual thought of how great a day it had been so far and that we would forever remember this moment… GMTA! When I think back on our wedding day I always remember this moment looking around the reception area and just taking it all in and how happy I felt.
Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?
The advice we were given that we found helpful was for us to try to sneak away for a minute or two so that we could really absorb the day and take a moment together. We loved the idea and it helped us stop the day from going by too quickly.
Don’t forget to relax, no matter how much you plan you will be so happy and distracted on your wedding day that you likely won’t notice any small detail that may be wrong, it’s not for you to worry about it either, appoint someone else as the “go-to” on your wedding day. My last tip is optional but I found it was a huge help in keeping stress at a minimum, plan in advance! I was very organized and made a little “cheat sheet” for the wedding party and vendors with important phone numbers, addresses and a schedule for the setup, rehearsal and day off. I handed it out a few weeks to a month in advance and despite all the teasing from the wedding party they all admitted it was really helpful.
