Rustic Chic at The Ranche in Calgary
Remember this downtown e-session ? Well, fast forward a couple months and I now have the pleasure of sharing the beautiful wedding of high school sweethearts, Katharine & Justin. Ladies, you’re going to adore this wedding – a total DIY event with utter style. Shot by the newly rebranded Shannon Yau Photography , who just so happens to be a featured member of our Love List, this rustic chic wedding was held at The Ranche in Calgary, Alberta. Straight from the cork wedding stationery (a first and now a favorite of mine!), custom birch centerpieces made by the bride herself, and gorgeous florals, this wedding will one that you’ll bookmark for later. Enjoy!
When we first started thinking about our theme and venue, we knew we wanted a venue that had natural character and a gorgeous setting. We didn’t want to go over the top with decorations and clutter thus keeping it as clean and simple as possible. The Ranche definitely hit our checklist while really inspiring and complementing the rustic chic concept we wanted to achieve for our wedding- this to us meaning natural/nature/vintage, comfortable/ warm feel with ‘chic’ clean Victorian style accents adding a modern glamour. We were able to accomplish a lot of these details ourselves with the help of family and friends- The cork paper invites, custom vintage rubber stamp with our brand ‘initials’ (used on invites, candy bags, guest book, seating chart), birch bark wrapped vases for centre pieces, mason jar ribbon hung vases wrapped in hemp and lace for the ceremony, birch/ chalk board table numbers, paper lace cupcake holders, cork paper guest book….All of these details combined fully supported the concept and created a seamless RUSTIC CHIC wedding.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time that day.
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
The overall goal of the style and theme of the wedding was to create a modern, yet elegant setting to compliment a semi formal, however social, atmosphere. The rustic chic concept combined both classic Victorian and natural/rustic influences to create prominent combinations of modern/vintage and formal/relaxed visuals. The Classic Victorian style is most evident in the use of white roses, wedding party flower arrangements, and the champagne bridesmaid’s dresses. This styling provides a formal elegance to the wedding.
The natural/rustic feel was brought in primarily through the Venue choice. – The Ranche is located in a provincial park and is a historic ranch house featuring an interior rich in the design styles of the old west. The surrounding landscape provides a backdrop that leaves one feeling as though they are far outside of the city however the subtle modern design features hidden in the Ranche provide the perfect tie back into the Victorian feel of the event.
The centerpieces also carried the rustic chic inspired theme of the wedding through use of lace runners and birch bark vases adding the natural feel to the interior space of the dining hall.
Loving the birch vases? Katherine now has some on sale on Etsy. Click here for details.
Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
