Today’s wedding is a total DIY labour of love. With a limited budget,Katriina and Jonathan were helped by family and friends to carry out their dream wedding. Complete with bocce ball for guests, cute soda refreshments and pretty DIY details, this wedding will undoubtedly inspire you. It’s utterly charming. Captured by Teppo Haapoja of Heart Visuals , the wedding was an casually outdoors at the Cumberland Heritage Museum in Ottawa, Ontario.

We wanted an outdoor, DIY feel for our wedding. We just wanted it to be a fun day, not only for us but where our friends and family would just be able to enjoy themselves too. Our venue played a huge role – since it was a heritage village with lot of rustic charm we went with that. When trying to pick our colours, I found a picture of seaglass (blue, mint, green) and yellow together and loved the way it looked. We just went with it from there.

What were your favorite wedding moments?

Bride: As we waited to walk down the aisle, my bridesmaids and I were hiding behind a fence. The slats were just big enough for us to peek through and see everyone on the other side – including my groom. That moment of pure joy and excitement, surrounded by my best friends, spying on my husband and seeing all the planning and decorations come together was perfect. From that point on it was just about getting married to my best friend and enjoying the day ahead of me. Also the speeches – we just felt so loved and blessed to have such great people be a part of our lives.
Groom: As common as this answer may be, my favorite part was seeing my beautiful bride walk down the aisle. and getting to take her arm in mine.

Advice for future brides/grooms?

My advice would be to not stress. The month leading up to the wedding I started really regretting the dress I chose for the bridesmaids and was unnecessarily anxious about it. Sure enough on the day my ladies looked beautiful and the dresses completely fit the style we were going for. Also, make sure you don’t have to do anything on the day of your wedding – we got the groom’s sister to organize everything on the day of, and it was great to not to have to think about how or if things were happening.
