Beautiful Love Story in Delia, Alberta
Ooh, it’s definitely a pretty one today sent over by a WO reader! Meet Sarah & Clayton. Their love story started after Clayton spotted Sarah’s pink motorcycle helmet at a mutual friend’s gathering and they spent the next day riding on their motorcycles together. I giggled when I found out that the day Sarah met Clayton she was actually set up on a blind date with Clayton’s friend earlier that day…guess that didn’t work out thankfully! Their proposal is even more adorable. After 2 failed attempts to propose, the third time was a charm when Clayton surprised Sarah at her work with their 8 week old basset hound puppy with a little pink bow tied around her neck. Too sweet.
So thrilled that they decided to share their wedding with us today. Photos are by Kelsy Nielson Photographer .
What was the inspiration behind your decor and colour choices?
Our inspiration came from the rustic theme but because we were getting married in the summer we wanted to add a hints of bright. My favorite color is pink but because clayton is not a fan of pink we decided to compromise and use clayton’s favorite color, light blue and a neutral chocolate brown and then fuschia, and light pink flowers!
The most special part about our wedding was the fact that it was in Delia, AB. My great grandfather bought the farm land in 1917. My grandfather inherited the farm land and this is where my grandparents raised 4 children, the youngest my dad. Growing up we spent many holidays and special occasions on the farm with beloved family, eating grandma’s home made meals and signature peanut butter balls! My grandparents unfortunately passed several years ago, but they were definitely present in our spirits.
When we first decided we were going to have the wedding on the farm, we both were a little nervous as we were both raised in large cities, the grass/weeds were shoulder height and the weather unpredictable! But because it meant so much to both of us, we spent countless weekends restoring Grandma’s forgotten garden for the ceremony. Considering the fact that the rain was so bad in the days leading up to the wedding, the bright and sunny day was a little piece of heaven- likely sent right from Grandma looking down on her farm and all love it held that day.
What was your favorite moment on your wedding day?
My favorite moment was standing on the dance floor surrounding my my closest family and friends having such a great time! This is about the time I realized how thankful and lucky I was to have all of these people in our lives who support us and love us so much!
What advice do you have for other brides currently planning their own weddings?
Small town wedding all the way! We were able to do more because the costs of the small town wedding were so little. Example, the hall was $500 for 3 days to rent! And it is never to early to start especially when you are doing a lot of DIY items!
