Acadian Day Inspired Wedding Photoshoot
Caro Photo and Lace & Twine Event Styling share with us a beautiful photoshoot inspired by the colors of today’s “National Acadian Day” – red, yellow & blue. There’s a story behind each detail and I am absolutely in love with the watercolor invitation suite. Read on!
This wedding styled shoot was inspired by the quirky, colorful and vibrant Acadian culture -celebrated on the 15th of August, ‘National Acadian Day’, in communities across North America, every year.
Color Palette
We brought the charm of the Acadian theme to life by choosing hues from the Acadian flag (red, white, blue and yellow) as the color palette for the shoot.
The Details
The Acadian people are known to be relaxed and fun loving. The shabby-chic vintage elements really helped create a warm, yet playful wedding look. The various weathered wood textures, cotton linens, twisted iron chairs, pom-pom fringe lace, informal floral arrangements, twine-wrapped boutonniere, hand-crafted Acadian flag, vintage glassware and precious handmade quilt are just some items that brought this theme to life.
Since many Acadian communities have strong ties with the sea (they are often home to generations of fishermen), we included subtle nautical references as well. Note the antique buoy in the tablescape, use of Seer Sucker Cotton for the runner and handmade bow tie and the watercolor touches on the paper suite design. This also explains our decision to photograph the couple outdoors, by the water, in a neighboring Acadian community called Shediac.
Paper Suite
Acadians, especially in our region, have a very distinctive language: ‘chiac’. Often described as ‘Fringlish’. The suite is bilingual and also contains some ‘chiac’ expressions. For instance: the little desert table sign invites you to ‘Sucrez-vous l’bec!’ (Literally: ‘put something sweet in your mouth). The menu also lists traditional Acadian recipes (poutine rapée, chicken fricot).
Bar Station
Guests can grab an adorable looking refreshment at this station. Our bar set up is complete with stripped straws, brightly colored fruit-punch duo and old fashioned mini-milk bottles and mason jars.
Dessert Table
Traditional Acadian sweets are presented as an informal mini-buffet. Note the antique muffin tins contain “pet de soeur’ cinnamon rolls and blueberry cream pies nested in adorable polka-dot wrappers. A few cake stands, a milk glass vase overflowing with berries, a vintage scale and cute lace runner complete the look of this table. Antique suitcases (a subtle nod to the long journey of Acadians in the time of the deportation) are tucked under the table.
Guest Book Station- Candle Bundles
Our twist on the traditional guest book is presented atop a vintage sewing machine. An antique wire basket and charming little drawer from a vintage dresser were used to present the various elements for this station. A frame made of reclaimed wood let’s the guests know what to do. The ‘guest-book’ idea is as follows: guests can grab a pair of long stem white candles and bundle them with a slip of Kraft paper and piece of brightly colored yarn. The paper wrapper would of course include their well wishes. How fun would it be for the happy couple to think of someone who shared their big day each time they light candles for a romantic night in?
