What was your favorite wedding moment?

There are way too many to pick, but the card Jason had given me before the ceremony always stands out in my mind. When i opened my card, there was a cute little pin with the image of toast and jam on it. Next to it were the words “can’t wait to see you! I’ll be waiting for you… look for the peanut butter pin if you get lost”. Of course, the card made me cry and i loved the pin so much that I placed it on the base of my bouquet. I held my thumbs over the pin as i walked down the aisle and when i looked up at Jason i saw he had a matching peanut butter toast pin on the base of his boutonniere. When we saw each other, i opened up my thumbs to show him my pin and it was just another reminder of how well we go together – like PB&J!

What was your overall inspiration for the wedding?

More than anything, we just wanted our wedding to feel like us! We had a lot of fun combining our ideas together and coming up with unique ways to personalize the day. We had a pretty good idea of the overall look we wanted but it all really came together when we found our venue – a replica of a 1929 airplane hangar in our hometown’s historical park. The setting of the 1920’s street, complete with a Midway & Exhibition, was the perfect backdrop for us to create a happy, casual and fun day (with a touch of vintage whimsy).

Message on the candle: Please help me surprise Miquela during our first dance by lighting this candle. Each candle represents a special moment we have shared with each one of you and I am hoping we can create ONE moment together we will never forget…

Any advice for future brides/grooms-to-be?

Make your wedding your own and stand by what you envision for your day! On the day of, don’t stress about the little things…they’ll work themselves out. Enjoy every second – it really does goes by as fast as everybody says it does.

The DIY Items

1. For our centrepieces, we spent months before the wedding collecting vases/bottles/pitchers from antique shops, flea markets, family and friends. We had so much fun searching for just the right pieces!
2. We got everyone involved to help us make a new piece of art for our place! We bought a large blank canvas, an easel and paint colours that we liked and encouraged everyone to add their touch to the canvas throughout the night. When we saw the painting the next morning, we were shocked at the masterpiece created by our friends and family! We now have it hanging in our home and it brings back memories of that amazing night and those who shared it with us.
3. The day before the wedding, we still didn’t have table numbers! My brother and i scoured the aisles of the dollar store and found assorted small wooden chests for a great price. We took the brackets off and bought home address numbers from the hardware store to screw into them. They ended up being really easy and were a nice addition to the tables.
4. We couldn’t quite find the right mix of table linens from the rental company so i bought bolts of the polka dot fabric on sale and my bridesmaid Christine sewed them all into table runners.
5. We hand made every invitation, table menu, name places, seating chart and various signs around the venue- lots of paper, time and patience but well worth it in the end.
