Pink & Purple Wedding at the Fairmont Vancouver

Albertans Chris & Courtney originally planned to get married on a cruise with a ceremony/reception on a beach in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Everything was booked but tragically, Courtney’s grandfather was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and would be too ill to attend their wedding. They decided to cancel their plans and bring their wedding to family instead, choosing Vancouver as the spot with family on the west coast. And in just 4 months with the help of Alicia Keats Weddings + Events had their special day with all family in attendance. Love!

Tell us about the proposal:

It was on Christmas Day 2010.  We made a deal with each other that we would wait to exchange gift’s at my parents house (its a tradition that we always to go my parents house for Christmas dinner).  We were at my parents house along with my siblings, aunt, uncle, and cousins.  Well gift exchange went by and I thought he completely forgot to get me gift or left it at home!  I was so upset!  He was acting so strange too he was really quiet and kept on pacing back and fourth through out the night.  Then after we all ate supper we were all relaxing in the living room except for my dad and Chris.  All of a sudden I hear my dad gasp from the kitchen and say “of coarse”!  (He was asking my dad’s permission to propose to me).  Chris then made his was in to the living room and stood in front of me a dropped down on one knee in front of my whole family and extended family and proceeded to tell me how much he loved me and how he wants’ to spend the rest of his life with me and asked me to marry him!  We were both shaking and tiered up and i said YES!!  Best Christmas gift ever! :*)  (my sister got it on camera attached is a photo of the proposal – not the best quality!)

What was your inspiration for all the wedding decor?
When we began the planning process, I let Aurora know I wanted ‘wow factor’ for my wedding and so we hit the ground running! I wanted a romantic/elegant wedding with lots of flowers/candles and sparkle! I wanted it to feel “upscale” but comfortable. She enlisted Upright Decor and Garden Party Flowers to help make this happen. Because Chris and I were living in Fort McMurray during the whole planning process, we skyped and emailed but I didn’t see anything in person until the big day arrived. The day of the wedding Aurora gave me a sneak peak at our reception room and it literally brought me to tears. Every single detail was done to perfection!
The reception was held in the intimate Vancouver Island Room. Upright Decor draped floor to ceiling white sheers drapes to create a dramatic backdrop for the head-table. Crystal candelabras glittered in the candlelight with lush peonies, roses and hydrangea. Anna Elizabeth Cakes created my dream cake incorporating ombre roses wish and red velvet taste! What I ended up with far exceeded my expectations it really was a dream come true!

Any advice for future brides/grooms-to-be?

Hire a wedding planner!  Well worth the money.  She took care of every single detail from hiring vendors/contracts/rehearsal/to even the shoe’s I was going to wear!  She coordinated the whole day and had a schedule for us from the time we woke up until the very end.  It really made things so much easier and stress free the day of.  Our day was perfect to us – and if anything went wrong we sure didn’t hear about it!
Another tip – try to take in every single second of your wedding day.  I was warned about how fast the day goes and it does!  Just try to be in the moment, and go with the flow.  This is your special, once in a life time day.  Enjoy it :)
