Join the Allegheny River Kayaking Adventure

Chapman Dam and Oil Creek State Park s are offering a guided kayaking and camping adventure along the federally protected National Wild and Scenic Allegheny River on July 30-31.  The program is part of Get Outdoors PA . Get Outdoors Pa programs are designed to help outdoor enthusiasts to learn or advance their experience with recreation activities through active, fun, outdoor programs.

Participants will launch from the Allegheny National Forest ‘s Buckaloons Recreation Area near Warren at 9:00am on Saturday, July 30. On the first day of the trip, paddlers will travel nearly 14 miles of the Allegheny River. There will be many opportunities for program participants to view the area’s plentiful wildlife and amazing natural beauty along the way. The group will stop at the Allegheny Islands Wilderness Area to camp for the evening, before finishing the adventure with a two mile paddle to the borough of Tidioute at 12:00 pm on July 31.

This experience is designed for adventurers ages 15 and older.  Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.  Transportation back to the Buckaloons launch point will be provided.  The cost of the program is free. You will need to provide your own food and drinks for the trip. The Buckaloons Recreation Area also charges a $5 daily launching fee for each vehicle.

Kayak and camping equipment is available to borrow if needed.  Registration is required by Friday, July 22, 2016.  Please contact Emily Borcz at 724-865-9473 or eborcz@pa.gov .  Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
