Many trophy fish are caught during this time of the year in NWPA. Some like the 10 inch bluegill in the photo are eligible for a Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Angler Award. There are some rules to follow when applying for an award. The fish must be caught during open season for the species and from waters open to the public. Their are several categories for entries. These categories are Senior Angler Award, Junior Angler Award, Catch & Release, Husky Musky, and First Fish. Certificates and patches are awarded for the different categories. These certificates look great on the wall next to a photo or mount. The information provided also helps the PA Fish & Boat Commission establish which waters are producing good fisheries. A list of the top catches in the state are available later in the year. This information can point anglers in the right direction on where to target trophy fish.
