Open House at the TREC
The Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary with an Open House this Saturday. The center was named in honor of former Governor Tom Ridge, who is from Erie. The TREC includes a 75 foot tower overlooking Presque Isle State Park. The center also features over 65,000 square feet of exhibits, displays, labs, learning centers, classrooms, a four story “Green Screen”, store, and a cafeteria. The building was designed to achieve a silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating from the U.S. Green Building Council. More than 1.1 million visitors have visited TREC since it opened.
“Since it was opened, the TREC has grown into a hub of environmental education and research,” Assistant Park Manager Holly Best said. “The partners within the building not only lease space, but join together to create work groups and a synergy to address challenging environmental issues.”
Saturday’s Open House will feature over ten scheduled events from the Native Plant Sale to the FREE Boat Wash Station. There will be family friendly events, aqua-lab tours, and a Meet and Greet with Environment Erie. Activities and events are scheduled from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm.
