In this exclusive clip from Discovery Channel's new season of Man, Woman, Wild, former Special Forces survival expert Mykel Hawke explains how to start a fire in abysmally wet conditions. It takes a little knife work.

In the third episode, which airs this Friday at 9 p.m. on Discovery, Mykel and Ruth find themselves lost on a canoe trip in the Amazon rainforest. They face down issues of clean drinking water, navigation and most importantly, fire. In heavy rains or flood conditions when everything is soaked, dry wood can usually be found by whittling at standing dead wood. Mykel explains how to make kindling from dead wood core and the importance of air circulation.
