Slow start for perch?
So far, my fishing buddies say the perch fishing hasn’t been so hot. They’ve caught some each time out, but not as much as they usually do this time of year.
However, they also say they are catching more walleye than typical for this time of year.
Their theory on why: the slightly colder-than-usual Lake Erie waters.
Our cool May didn’t warm Lake Erie as much as usual. So. the lake is running about a degree or two cooler than the longterm average. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but it appears to be enough to throw off our fish.
The perch aren’t schooling, and the spawn seems to have happened later this year.
Everyone I’ve talked to expects things to straighten out fairly quickly given last weekend’s record-high temperatures.
