Pocomoke State Park DIY Wedding by Joy Michelle Photography
We are just smitten with this gorgeous Pocomoke State Park DIY Wedding by Joy Michelle Photography . The combination of the beautiful state park ceremony, the couple’s homemade touches and the reception at their families private Art Studio really make this wedding uniquely stunning from start to finish. Joy of Joy Michelle Photography tells us,“Amy and Evan are one of a kind, that’s for sure! I will start with the fact that these two met in a kindergarten class! They wanted their wedding to be a reflection of their love, what mattered most to them, and their familes. Their ceremony took place in the amphitheater of Pocomoke State Park in the woods as golden light started setting. I couldn’t have imagined a more intimate and beautiful setting. The bridesmaids entered the clearing to ‘Edelweiss’ playing softly- followed by Amy and her father. There wasn’t a dry eye! Just after the ceremony, the bridal party helped them dig up a bottle of liquor they had buried at the site of the ceremony 1 month prior. Southern folklore says that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the bride and groom are to be married it won’t rain on their wedding day. According to many believers, this must be done exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be completely full, and it must be buried upside down to ensure maximum weather persuasion. Because of the bride’s Irish heritage, she buried a bottle of Jameson. I love how they blended these traditions!
The reception was equally as artistic and expressive as it was held in Evan’s Dad’s private Art Gallery and the art adorning the walls was a collaboration between Evan and his Dad. Evan and Amy DIY’ed their table decor with candles, vintage candelabras, and custom marque signage. Most of the décor is DIY that the bride and groom made during the year that they were engaged. The artwork adorning the walls of the reception space are a collaboration of the groom and his father. The wine was made by the bride, groom and family and friends, as a gift from the groom’s sister and brother-in-law. The wine labels were designed and printed by the groom. All signage was made by the bride and groom. Between the mauve tones, gorgeous lace touches, and artistic DIY touches, this wedding was easily one of my favorites from the 2015 season!”
