Rustic Bigwin Island Wedding in Muskoka
Sometimes you can get an entire picture of a wedding just by looking at the invitation suite. Packaged neatly in a box, the wood printed invites were placed in a bed of moss letting guests know that they were in for a special, detail filled day. Held in Muskoka, this wedding captured by Jennifer Klementti Photography and planned by A Moment in Time is rustic chic at its finest.
We have always had a love for Muskoka this is what drove our vision. Both of our families cottage in the area, and we knew our wedding had to be held in Muskoka. It was important for us not to have a ‘cheesy’ wedding. We really wanted a classy event. We wanted to incorporate different textures, that were unique or organic. The invitations were rustic chic. The font was Typology on wood with varying sizes of font. This is a modern font printed on a natural surface and we really liked the juxtaposition of the textures. My (Nicole) grandfather drew a pen & ink of the family cottage and gave it to my (Nicole) parents for their engagement. This drawing was used on the outside of the wedding invitation. The flowers had fruit and lotus pods which gave them a very organic feel. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen were “mismatched/matched”. We wanted to add personal touches to our wedding day. We incorporated the people who wouldn’t be with us on our wedding day, such as having my (Nicole) grandfather’s drawing on our invitations. Matt had his grandfather’s ring with him. When my great grandparents were married, they were given a sword & they decided to cut their wedding cake with it. From then on, cutting the cake with our great grandparents sword has become a King family tradition. Matt & I are the fourth generation to be married that used the sword to cut the cake. On Matt’s side, a Fowler family tradition has been to sip scotch and smoke cigars on the front porch of the family cottage. So we set up a cigar & scotch lounge on the porch at Bigwin.
Our favourite moment of the day was our first dance. We did a choreographed Fox Trot to the song “It had to be you.” By Harry Connick Jr. Again we wanted to incorporate “old meets new”. Bigwin Island was absolutely fabulous! We were thrilled with everything from the moment we booked our wedding. They have a very personalized approach, and over the top customer service. Men in white gloves greeted us at our boat. We loved the venue so much because it had a rustic feel with 5 star service.
