Glam Chic Wedding at the Thompson in Toronto
There’s so much gorgeousness in today’s wedding. The dress, the rooftop ceremony, the bride/groom, the bridesmaid dresses and the decor…can I go on? Held at the chic Thompson Hotel in downtown Toronto, Lisa Mark Photography was able to capture the glam that was Stephanie and Charles’ wedding. I love all the modern touches.
On the days leading up to our wedding, all our friends kept saying to us is, take a moment to enjoy your special day. Well, I think I can speak for both of us when I say, we took many opportunities to stop and realize how lucky we were to have all of our friends and family there to witness and celebrate the most important (albeit sometimes stressful) day of our lives!
For the ceremony, we wanted something simple, yet at the same time, we wanted a statement to match our lavish personalities. The aisle was lined with silk white rose balls, hanging on silver chiavari chairs; which lead to two stunning flower arrangements of hydrangeas, cymbidium orchids, white roses and birch branches. To honour my husband’s Jewish heritage, we chose a breathtaking chuppah draped with white sheer organza, and an elegant crystal chandelier hanging in the center. The bridesmaids walked down the aisle to the Beatles, “All You Need is Love”, looking spectacular in their Vera Wang dresses, and carrying white rose bouquets. I walked down to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, holding a jewel encrusted bouquet of white calla lilies and white roses.
When I saw Charles walk out with his parents (I was behind a window where he could not see me), all I could say with tears in my eyes, “He looks so handsome!” And that he did!
Charles, my husband, is the most romantic man who loves a good surprise! For our engagement, he rented out the top floor of a museum in New York, filled it with candles, roses and songs by our favourite singer Michael Buble. From that moment forward, we began planning our fairy tale wedding.
We always knew we wanted a downtown wedding – something modern, but elegant, with a touch of bling! We had a few venues in mind, however none could compete with The Thompson Hotel. With their amazing panoramic rooftop views of the Toronto Skyline, where you can take sunset photos that look as if your were superimposed onto the stunning backdrop of the city, to the endless pieces of art and amazing lighting scattered around the hotel. We just knew that this venue had to be ours.
Our theme was black, white and silver, with pops of Kelly green. I became absolutely obsessed with finding flowers, jewels, and just about anything that fit our theme! Our vision really came together with the help of our decor company Decor with Grandeur Inc., as well as endless support from our wedding planner Diane England.
Our cocktail hour was in the sexy 1812 room, with passed hors d’oeuvres and two Jazz guitarists. We didn’t want our reception space to look like your traditional wedding. We decided to fill half the tables with 3 short arrangements of white tulips, roses and hydrangea, and the other half with tall modern crystal lamps. There were candles everywhere to give the room a luxurious and romantic feel. Our head table was filled with flowers, candles, and the skirt on the table even matched the poof of my dress!
The rest of the night was filled with laughter, tears of joy, and lots of dancing. One of my favourite memories will be dancing the horah with my new husband and our families. It was a moment for everyone to bond, and you could really feel two families become one!”
