Canmore Silvertip Wedding from Scott Gage Photography
Remember this Stampede engagement which I shared last April? The couple, Chris and Christi tell me that they’re true cowboys at heart because they literally stepped the night away when they first met at the Calgary Stampede. They recently tied the knot at the Silvertip Resort and we are ever so lucky that Scott Gage Photography sent it over. What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
Chris and I knew from the beginning that we wanted a rustic elegant wedding (we are both wanna be cowboys unfortunately born in the city!). Once I saw the Silvertip room with the exposed wood beams, stone fireplace surrounded by mountain views in every direction, I knew that was the perfect location. And then I found the lanterns!!! I found the most amazing lanterns in my favourite colors (lime green, deep purple and red) and that became the starting point for colors. Even though we hired amazing wedding planners (Firefly Occasions), I love DIY projects, so my husband and I made the cake topper and the wood directional signs (the wood sign theme was tied into the invitations and all wedding stationary), my mother in law made the lantern centerpieces and the wreaths around them, my husbands grandmother tied raffia bows on 200 napkins and we had our three favourite bakers make our favourite cookies as wedding favours. By getting involved it adds your personal touch to the day and makes it extra special. Having said that, working with Firefly on the decor was great as we provided the rustic and they provided the elegance and they did a fantastic job of ensuring that it all come together perfectly! And I have to mention the BEST florist in Calgary, Lyn Chapman from Floral Artistry … she worked with me until we found the perfect rustic flowers in the perfect colors, and she made me the most exquisite burlap and willow branch garland accented with white hydrangeas that we used at the ceremony site and as the head table decoration. The flowers really finished off the whole look!
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
THE FIREWORKS!!! Chris always said he would never get married on a long weekend… but it turned out to be the only weekend available for the venue. So to ensure that our guests didn’t miss out on long weekend festivities, we had the most amazing firework show put on Magnum Fireworks. People are still talking about the fireworks!
Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
Have fun!!! The day really does go by so quickly so remember to take a few moments and take it all in. Don’t stress if things don’t go exactly to plan and if something goes wrong, even better cause then you have a great story to tell! To ensure you have a fun, stress free day… hire a wedding planner! Let someone else worry about set up, take down, timing, logistics, etc. while you concentrate on the important things, your now husband, family, friends and having the happiest day of your life!!
