Up! Hot Air Balloon Engagement Session

Says Barbie: My fiancee, Robyn and I watched the movie “UP” shortly after we first met and swooned over the “Forever Love” that the old couple shared in the movie (if you haven’t seen it, you MUST!). Hot air balloons & forever love became a bit of a theme in our relationship over the past couple years so on Robyn’s birthday this year I surprised her with a balloon ride. Long story short a hot air balloon ride is extremely weather dependent and the ride was sadly cancelled (as was 4 other after that day).

Then we got an idea to ask our photographer, John Heil if he would be interested in turning our next balloon ride attempt into our engagement shoot and he excitedly agreed. We spent 3 hours in rush-hour traffic driving out to Langley Regional Airport to meet the Sundance Balloon folks only to find out shortly after we arrived that it was going to be cancelled AGAIN due to weather.

Long story ‘short-ish’, the pilot was very sweet and took pity on our disappointment, so he invited us over to his house in Langley to blow up one of the balloons on his front yard & we could have a private photo shoot (on the condition we help put it away at the end). OH BOY! The three men from Sundance Balloons went above and beyond to make our day feel as special as possible. Sandy, the pilot and home owner even set up an adorable little table & found found some version of Baby Duck Champagne to serve us as ‘props’. It didn’t hurt that his house had a giant weeping willow with a hanging swing in the front yard either! It was truly one of the most meaningful and joyful days any of us had ever had.
