Heritage Park is a sweet rustic spot in Calgary, as I’ve had the pleasure of attending a wedding there before. Today we’re sharing a wedding that’s filled with a pretty palette of purple and green captured by Blair Marie Photography . Rod and Blaire took inspiration from their wedding venue and used lots of wood details throughout to create a warm, romantic atmosphere for their guests.

How did they meet?
Rod and Blaire met years ago when they were young and both seeing other people. In September of 2009 Rod and Blaire found themselves both single at the same time and were set up by a mutual friend. Rod wooed Blaire with his remarkable grasp on advanced dental terminologies, which were totally unresearched. Blaire was impressed enough to give Rod her phone number and agree to a first date. Blaire tested Rods mettle by dragging him to a hot yoga class and dinner. Rod past the test and the two quickly became inseparable immediately knowing that what they had would last a life time.

What was your favorite wedding moment?
Seeing rods face when he first saw me walking down the aisle and also seeing everything come together. You hold a vision of what your wedding would look like but It doesn’t come to life until the wedding day.

What was your overall inspiration for your wedding?
the inspiration for my wedding really came from the venue. I didn’t want a venue that I would have to spend a lot of money to look nice. I wanted something rustic yet romantic. This is what the Wainwright hotel portrayed. I also wanted something that we could easily do on our own. We had easy access to a lot of wood. I had seen some pictures on pinterest of weddings with wood in them. So I modified them a little and my husband made all of the candle holders and attached them to their wood stand. The rest of the décor really went around the centerpieces. We actually made all of the decorations for the wedding. Most ideas came from pinterest.

Any advice for future brides/grooms-to-be?
Organize the big 3 first which are: (1) Venue (2) Photographer (3) Dress
Try not to involve to many people when choosing centerpieces etc. You get too many opinions that make it more difficult to choose. I ended up choosing most everything with my husband and mom. Utilize your wedding party and start early. Its great to be organized. We had a busy summer leading up to our September wedding. All of our decorations were ready in June. There will always be some last minute details you will have to add and will have no control
over this. Its your day!! Don’t sweat the small details that go wrong no one will notice but you!
