Paraguay….the last of the first
So, we crossed into Encarnaciòn, Paraguay, yesterday…the last first country on our trip! Not too bad of a crossing, but a little chaotic. We just took a public bus over, but of course, since it was full of locals, we were the only ones with big packs, and I think we got a few looks for taking up one or two people`s worth of space on the bus with those huge hulking things! Also, the locals only had to show their paperwork to the cutoms and immigrations officials, so they only took a few seconds at each station, but we had to do a lot more. Long story short, the busses kept leaving us cause we took so long, and we kept having to wait around for other ones. Overall, not too shabby!
Went to more Jesuit ruins today, only these ones are known as Trinidad, about 30km outside of Encarnacion. Very beautiful and very deserted. It is officially a UNESCO World Heritage site, but we were literally the only three people there (we went with another girl from England, the only other backpacker we have met thus far) In a way, it made the ruins more mystical or traditional because they weren`t swarmed with people, and we could actually look at them as they are, and maybe imagine them as they were….if that makes any sense.
Anyway, tomorrow we are catching a bus up to Asuncion, and hopefully, we will be able to meet up with Byron on Friday, and head out to his site and get a real look at rural living in Paraguay. I`m actually pretty excited to finally get off the beaten track and check out stuff that others don`t really get to see….my eyes are wide open!
