Bariloche and San Martìn de los Andes
So, we went kayaking the last day in Bariloche and it was so much fun! See, I`m a pisces and supposed to like water sports, but since there is a serious shortage of them in Colorado, I never really got a chance to try them….I think I am hooked! We only went in a lake, but it was so peaceful to glide along in the middle of it, far away from the noise and the chaos of the shoreline. The water was so clear too–probably the cleanest water I have ever seen in my life. Serious.
I need to give a quick rant about our hostel in Bariloche–it is called the Bariloche Hostel. Very nice people that work there, and we enjoyed it for the first 4 days we were there. Unfortunately, we woke up our last morning to the weekend receptionist saying that we had to get out of our room, as well as the other two girls in there…apparently they had given away our four beds, as well as two others, and we all were essentially getting kicked out of the hostel. Pretty annoying since we had to go find another hostel for our last night. The worst part was that we came back later that night to meet up with some friends, and the night receptionist asked if we were Heather and Steve, and when I said yes, she was like, “Oh, do you want me to show you your room?” Long story short, the guy in the morning had screwed up, kicked us out, but we were on the list for that night, and we did, in fact, have beds…..Apparently, there were some serious scheduling errors for that day. Seven kids showed up as well that had reservations–and had paid a deposit in advance for their beds–and were told that there was no space, and they didn`t get their deposit back. The worst part was that the hostel kicked out or turned away 13 people that day, and at the end of the night, they had five empty beds…..too bad for them, I guess.
Anyway, we were heading into Pucon, but once our bus arrived in San Martin de los Andes yesterday, we decided to stay here for two nights to just relax. It is a really cute town–a cross between Vail and Switzerland, I think–nestled in the mountains onthe side of a lake. We got a really nice private hotel place, as well–complete with TV and a kitchen set up–so it has been enjoyable to just hang out and not deal with the chaos of hostels. Definitely check out Apart Naum if you ever come here!
Heading into Pucòn tomorrow to climb the volcano…I`ll show pictures later of the adventure!
