Jason and I live in Sherwood Park, Alberta, but we were both born and raised in small coastal communities. Jason grew up in the town of Torbay, Newfoundland, and myself in the town of Comox on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Despite the fact that these two Canadian coastal communities are situated on opposite ends of the country, they are surprisingly similar. Both offer a quaint, small town feel, where the people are friendly and the seafood is abundant. As a young girl I attended several weddings set in the beautiful ocean-side Filberg Park. Walking down the rustic, winding stone steps in a beautiful white gown was definitely my fairytale wedding dream. For me, my hometown of Comox had always been my perfect wedding location, and fortunately, it wasn’t hard to get Jason to agree. The fact that my father’s family has been in the Valley since the late 1800’s and our family photos can be found in the local museum makes this community all the more special. Thus, the Comox Valley was the perfect backdrop for our incredibly beautiful day. We wanted our wedding day to be classic, with hints of modern flare. We were very fortunate to be able to find just the right people to help us pull off the perfect event. It wasn’t easy trying to put together a wedding on Vancouver Island while living and working in Alberta, but my mother is incredible. She organized and planned tirelessly; she truly was the backbone of the entire event. My amazing friends were also a huge help; I certainly hope to be able to return the favor someday soon.
