You’ll love today’s featured wedding held at the Calabogie Peaks Resort and captured by Laura Kelly Photography . It’s a black-tie inspired event in a scheme of black and white with loads of thoughtful details.

Says Danielle: I wanted a timeless and classic wedding set in a non-traditional ceremony location. When I saw the beautiful island at the resort I knew it was the perfect setting. I decided on black and white as the color scheme for the day- with the bridesmaids in long black dresses and the groomsmen in classic black and white suits. Their black attire popped against the natural greenery of the trees and island and really brought in a natural feel.

The entrance doors were my favorite DIY element. Mark and I found them in an old farmhouse my family owns and with a touch of white paint and a frame they quickly became a stunning feature to the ceremony. They brought the traditional feel of a church to the outdoor island and made a dramatic entrance when the bridesmaids and bride made their way up the aisle.

How they met: Mark and I grew up in the same small town- knowing one another our entire lives. It wasn’t until four years ago that we starting look at each other in a whole new way. We were casually chatting at a pool party when suddenly a giant dead FROG fell from the sky and landed on Mark’s head. Being the girl that I am I screamed and scared everyone half to death. Later on someone came up to Mark and told him- “the look on your wife’s face was priceless!” After that, Mark realized he wanted us to be more than friends.

We brought a lot of DIY elements to the wedding as we wanted it to reflect our personalities and we both love a good project. Mark can build or design practically anything and I love using my creative side and art background. We built freestanding doors for our ceremony space for a dramatic entrance for the bridal party and bride. We also created our own chalk board signs to welcome our guests, share our ‘Love Story,’ or invite them to ‘Choose a Seat, Not a Side.’ We found old mirrors, painting the frame white and the glass with chalkboard paint and I painstakingly wrote on each one with liquid chalk. We also built our own arbor- hanging a chandelier for an added touch to the ceremony. All the paper products- from the invitations to the ceremony program fans- were designed by Mark and assembled by my bridesmaids and myself. We also created a free-standing photobooth for our guests to take pictures with during the cocktail hour.
