Intimate DIY Wedding from Heart Visuals
Sometimes it’s the little details that make a wedding feel special and today’s wedding is just full of them. Captured by Heart Visuals , I can immediately tell that the bride and groom have an undying love for one another, and they are literally the cutest couple ever. The wedding was held at Windreach Farms in Uxbridge, ON.
Says Teppo (the photographer): Blythe and Aleks have an amazing love story. They were both serving with Mission Year in Oakland, California where Blythe was the team leader, and Aleks was a student. Blythe had moved there from Canada, and Aleks from Norway. Due to school policy, no students are allowed to date, so nothing formed during their school year, but something had sparked during the year that outlasted their schooling. A few months later, Aleks was on an around the world trip, and he had purposely made his last destination of the trip Toronto. Aleks had surprised Blythe by showing up at her work, with signs professing his love for her. This begun the adventure of dating long distance, between two continents, and waiting for this special day to come, their wedding day.
How did you two meet?
We met through volunteering in Oakland, California with Mission Year. It is an organization serving urban American communities by taking Jesus’ command in Matthew 22:37-39 to love God and love others to heart. We became good friends during this transformative time through volunteering with the YMCA, getting to know the people in our community, and serving in the local church together. After being friends for a few years, we realized that our lives are better together… and here we are!
Any favourite wedding moments?
It is hard to choose! There are so many. One moment in particular was in our ceremony where my ring was presented to me. During our engagement Aleks had said he would get the rings for us and they would be a surprise. When he presented it to me during our ceremony, it was exactly what I had hoped for – a simple wide band. Then I found out that Aleks had MADE them himself out of precious coins! It is truly a token that reminds me of his love for and commitment to me and our lives together, knowing his heart behind them and the hours he spent making them.
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
Overall, we were hoping for a simple, beautiful, and casual atmosphere. We wanted a peaceful venue that all of our families and friends would come to for the whole wedding day and where they would feel relaxed and comfortable to soak it all in with us. I loved the soft, elegant look of tea lights in mason jars, fabric pennants, and hydrangeas mixed with the rustic charm of the barn. I wanted colours that were cheerful and bright so we chose two of my favourites: coral and mint.
Any advice for future brides/grooms-to-be?
