Have you been aching for a ‘real wedding’ this week? Well you’ve in luck because today’s was sent over to us by a bride and I’m so excited to share it with you. Kristi and Jamie’s wedding is classic and elegant in a beautiful combination of soft green and navy blue. Held at the Brock House Restaurant in Vancouver, I’m absolutely smitten with the curved seating at the ceremony and simple yet styled florals to finish off the look. What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?

Our family is mainly from out of town, so we were searching for a venue that showcased why we love living in Vancouver so much…and Brock House fit that perfectly with the water views, gardens and mountains in the distance. We decided on a very elegant and classic tone for our wedding while still having a modern feel. We wanted our colours to really pull from the beautiful scenery – rather than try to compete with it – so we chose lots of greens and white flowers to tie into Brock House’s natural beauty. We used lots of candlelight on the tables, along with crystal chandeliers and twinkle lights under the white tent for the reception, so that really helped set the mood and tone for an elegant affair. Once the sun set, we set out a pathway to the beach with tea-light luminaries – more candlelight to further make the place ‘sparkle’!

How did you both meet?

We met at a dinner party and hit it off right away. Shortly after we had both arrived and introduced ourselves, one of the other guests at the table asked how long we had known each other and I responded with “just a few minutes actually” and she was surprised as she thought we must have come together or been together from the way were talking and interacting – comments like that are really interesting as I think it shows there was a connection between us from the very first few moments we met.

Fast-forward to a walk in Stanley Park last September, we stopped at the spot where we had first kissed –Jamie had asked a passerby to take our picture, and while she did he pulled out a ring, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I think the woman taking our picture clued into what was happening before I did! She took some great photos of the moment and it was nice to have those images to cherish!

What was your favorite moments from your wedding day?

The entire day was perfect, one of my favourite moments was when we got up to say our speeches at our reception and I just had to pause for a minute looking over the room as it was so special that all of the friends and family we were looking at and talking to were there for us and to celebrate in our love!

Every part of our wedding had so much special meaning, we flew in one of Jamie’s relatives who is a minister to officiate our ceremony, and having someone so close to us do that really made our wedding even more centred around our love and family.

Do you have any advice for other brides/grooms-to-be?

Create a vision and a wedding that reflects you – Jamie is a former pilot, so we had our ring bearer ‘fly’ a toy plane down the aisle with the rings attached, and had our guests toss paper airplanes to see which order the tables would eat. People really enjoyed all the unique touches we thought of and it really reflected our lives and relationship.

On a practical side my advice would be to walk with your head up!! Assume someone is always taking a picture of you; you wouldn’t believe how many photos I have walking down the aisle with my head down to the ground (I’m sure it was so I wouldn’t trip over my dress, but that is what the man on your arm is for!!) So, our advice….be yourself and smile!!
