Canadian Stationery Feature: Papertalk Press
The third artist featured this week is Michelle, the talent behind Papertalk Press , based out of Toronto. Creating modern and unique invitations are her specialty, so you’ll enjoy the three designs presented here which were styled by Pink & Honey and captured by Shannon Yau Photography .
How long have you been designing stationery?
I started Papertalk Press in 2009, but I have been in the design industry for over 14 years. I’ve worked in print design, web design and even fashion design!
This design is the epitome of Papertalk Press’ philosophy – it’s modern, distinctive, and an alternative to the typical wedding invitation style.
Describe your style.
My style is bold, unorthodox and typographic. I love negative space, interesting patterns and beautiful letters.
The organic texture of the “wood” pockets complement the Scandinavian print-inspired pattern in the invitation. It takes a rustic element and turns it into a more mid-century graphic style.
What or who are the main influences on your style/designs?
Our designs are heavily typographic, and often the inspiration stems from the typeface that is being used. Couples who choose our designs tend to be looking for something that is modern, graphic, and not your run-of-the-mill wedding invitation.
What is your favourite colour combination or design detail that you are in love with right now?
Gold and black, because it’s so sharp and classic. A great typeface is usually the star of our design, so I would say type is the design detail that I’m in love with right now, and pretty much forever!
