Romantic Wedding at Fort Henry in Ontario
We’ve got another gem of a wedding featuring a couple of my favorite colours this season, aubergine & gold. Captured by Stylized Events helped them achieve a classic and utterly beautiful day, one that I know you’ll absolutely adore.
The shoes are to die for! Stunning… and the dress? Monique Lhuillier from Kleinfelds in NYC. So pretty.
Tell us about your love story
We met about seven years ago on top of a houseboat on the St Lawrence River. Mike had just moved back from Souix Lookout (having lived up there for 2 years), and I was on summer break from University. It was Canada day weekend and a large group of my friends rented houseboats each Canada Day weekend and it was just luck that Mike had decided to come out now that he was home. After I spent the whole day not having to leave the top of the boat once as Mike kept on getting everything I needed for me, I thought to myself ‘…isn’t this guy nice.” Well he called me shortly after on our first date and I made my best friend host a mini party so that it wasn’t just me and him (I wasn’t too sure at the time and wanted other opinions). Well from that night on, its been history ever since.
What was your favorite moment from your wedding day?
This is so hard as there are so many to choose from! Coming down the aisle and seeing everyone and Mike for the first time against the beautiful décor we had is a moment I’ll take with me forever – probably my #1. Other key moments would be, our first dance, we did a ‘rock the reception type’ dance to Heart – Alone, the photobooth, fireworks, cigar bar, the speeches – everything was so spectacular. I will say also – Mike and I got pulled into the tent before anyone else did to see the décor first – and walking under that tent was absolutely breathtaking – it was amazing seeing our vision come to life! Rachel Clingen – is amazing!
What was your inspiration behind your overall wedding decor and colour choices?
I wanted classic elegance with a touch of modernism and really wanted to have pictures of our wedding and know that in 10, 20 even 50 years down the road I will still look back at that day and the event as breathtaking as it was in the moment. I didn’t want to choose things that were trendy at the time, but down the road not enjoy the choices that we made. I feel we were able to capture this sense of timelessness with the choices we made. The setting was an 19th century fort, that was, although epic in its own right, was also dark, hard and grand. The soft colours of ivory, champagne, green and gold added a touch of elegance and softness to the setting that created a really amazing juxtaposition.
Do you have any advice for other brides-to-be?
GO FOR IT! Worth every penny – we totally blew our budget and have zero regrets! You only get to do this once if you’re lucky so just go for it! Hire the right people to make your vision come to life and also so that you can relax, enjoy the day and just show up to what will be one of the most beautiful and memorable of your life!
